Golden Compass & Music Scores

Wasn’t too impressed with The Golden Compass. It’s almost like a story that seems to go everywhere but anywhere. But I guess considering there is suppose to be a sequel, it’s understandable. The effects were very well done though.

One of the main songs of the movie sounded really like a song in Lust, Caution, and I had a hunch that this movie too was scored by Alexandre Desplat. And true enough, when the credits rolled, it was him!

Hans Zimmer too has similar sounding music, and there have been a few instances when I’ve heard something in different movies/shows and said immediately, “Hans Zimmer composed that.

It’s like a double-edged sword: If someone can recognize your work, does it mean you have created a signature for yourself, or does it mean your songs start sounding similar and you’re running out of ideas?
